How to Teach with ICT in the Classroom
The aim of this module is to show participants how to successfully weave Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) into their daily classroom procedures. Many teachers still use ICT as a new bottle for old wine – conventional activities and exercises are copied from course books and delivered via the computer. This mode of learning is hardly efficient and may even lead to frustration, both in teachers and students, because relatively simple activities are made unnecessarily complex by using a complex medium. However, technology opens up lots of other doors and may greatly enhance conventional teaching, provided you know how to do it and what to expect.
In this module the participants will find out how to design effective computer-based language activities and how to integrate them with conventional materials. The content will be divided into two weeks. First, participants will have a look at how Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) responded to learning theories of the day and what its current position in the broad field of foreign language education is. Then, they will be given all the necessary background to design effective ICT-enhanced lessons and activities, followed by relevant hands-on experience.
Due to its background character, this module is recommended as a prerequisite to other Click* modules.
